Welcome to the Pattern Resource Page!
Just like any other skill, off-loom weaving and other jewelry making techniques are easier to learn when there's
a pattern to follow. Instructions and patterns are published in many beading specialty publications - there's more
information on some of my favorite books and magazines on the Magazines page.
There's also a wealth of information available on the Internet. Some of these sites are free, some charge fees,
and some combine both types of content. One thing to keep in mind however, is that patterns and designs are
copyrighted materials and, unless it is explicitly stated otherwise, cannot be replicated for profit without
permission from the holder of the copyright. This can be either an individual or a publisher. That being said,
here's a list of my favorite sites for patterns.
- Bead-Patterns.com. This site contains both free patterns and patterns for sale.
There's a fine selection of techniques, stitches, and styles and new content is added frequently.
There are also free graphs for those who are interested in making their own herringbone, peyote,
or brick stitch designs. The site may be searched by designer, stitch, or type of jewelry item.
- Bead Pattern Central. Like Bead-Patterns.com, this site has a good
selection of designs and can be searched by designer, subject, or technique.
- Free Cross Stitch Patterns Ok - I haven't completely lost my mind. I've found that
many cross stitch patterns can easily be adapted for weaving with square stitch. It's easiest to adapt
patterns that use a single color per square and that don't rely heavily on backstitching for design elements.
- Free Pattern Site Portal This site links to 40 sites offering free patterns.
- WigJig University. WigJig focuses on wire working techniques
and offers instructional materials as well as patterns. Both the instructions and patterns are free.
